Lake Edge Learning Center

Lake Edge Learning Center is a non-profit nature-based play school where children take part in activities such as tree climbing, frog holding, mud pie baking, cloud spotting, puddle jumping, bird calling, wild foraging, moon gazing, firefly chasing, fort building, creek following, and rock hunting. Classes are held outside as much as weather permits, and nature is integrated into the indoor spaces, with play areas that have the overall appearance of a natural area rather than structured play equipment. The curriculum blends classroom learning with hands-on, outdoor exploration and follows an emergent approach that is typically rooted in the seasonal happenings of the natural world.

• Schedule: Hours of operation Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–5:30 pm

Lake Edge Learning Center describes its mission as nurturing children alongside their families in an inclusive, home-like community rooted in nature, using hands-on, creative experiences to foster curiosity, connection, and the messy and magical parts of childhood. The program states that it uses a whole child approach to education and supports developmentally appropriate practices to develop math and literacy, social-emotional, physical, and cognitive skills. It also states that it teaches children to care for themselves, others, the community, and the environment. Lake Edge Learning Center admits students of any sex, race, color, religion, and national or ethnic origin and states that it does not discriminate against any family member based on sex, race, cultural heritage, national origin, marital status, religion, political beliefs, disability, or sexual orientation.
