The Woodson YMCA traces its history in Wausau to 1891, with its first building completed in 1893 and later building and expansion projects in 1962, 1978, 1990, 1994, 2004, 2005, 2014, and a transformation vision beginning in 2019. C.J. Winton served as its President in the past. The organization states that its mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Y For All Annual Campaign relies on donations to provide memberships and scholarships, and the building of the Aspirus Branch was supported by Wausau Aspirus Hospital along with other foundations, corporations, members, and residents. The YMCA describes itself as the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by empowering young people, improving the health and well-being of people of all ages and inspiring action in and across communities.
