About
Summer Art Sessions includes hands-on learning opportunities through creative play in the indoor Art Park. Participants work with visiting artists and use open studio time in the Glass Box Studio to create their own artworks. The program also includes guided experiences in the galleries with hands-on art-making through SPARK! and multisensory tours and activities through Art Beyond Sight.
• Schedule: Open Tuesday–Friday during daytime hours, with additional weekend and extended evening hours on the first Thursday of each month
• Price: Admission is free
The program takes place at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, whose mission is to enhance lives through art. The museum is led by director Matt Foss, assistant director and collections curator Amalia Wojciechowski, and director emerita Kathy Kelsey Foley. It is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is the only accredited art museum in Wausau and one of nine in Wisconsin. The museum received the National Medal for service in the community in 2017, was a finalist for the National Medal in 2016, and received the Wisconsin Governor’s Arts, Culture, and Heritage Tourism Award in 2016. It is a founding member of Wisconsin Art Destinations and is home to the internationally renowned, world-renowned Birds in Art exhibition. The museum serves a largely rural, fifteen-county area in north central Wisconsin and provides Wausau and surrounding areas with access to exhibitions and a place to gather and build relationships.
