About
Junior Golf Camp runs under the Geneva Lake Environmental Agency (GLEA), which focuses on Geneva Lake and its watershed through monitoring, data collection, and education. The program takes place on weekdays and follows a full-day schedule.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 AM–4 PM
Since 1971, the Geneva Lake Environmental Agency has worked to protect the water quality, plant and animal life, and overall health of Geneva Lake and its watershed. The agency’s mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance lake and watershed quality through monitoring, data collection, and education. GLEA is the shared environmental agency of the Towns of Linn and Walworth, the Villages of Fontana and Williams Bay, and the City of Lake Geneva, and it works with schools, lakefront associations, and community groups on best practices for protecting Geneva Lake. It coordinates with municipalities, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on long-term strategies such as lake level monitoring, shoreline protection, and the Geneva Lake Management Plan. GLEA’s work includes weekly summer beach sampling for E-coli bacteria, an annual Geneva Lake boat count with Water Safety Patrol, zebra and quagga mussel assessments, aquatic plant and macroinvertebrate surveys, groundwater monitoring, and the Clean Boats Clean Water initiative to control invasive species.
GLEA also produces the Geneva Waters newsletter, lake documents for municipality education and decision making, brochures on lake topics, a Lake Stewardship Booklet, and community groundwater information. Its education efforts include programs for residents, presentations of reports to schools, college internships, high school job-shadowing, and co-sponsoring scholarships for students to attend Natural Resource Career Workshops. Additional activities include an Ice-On Contest and maintaining Freedom of Information Act and open records policies and request forms.
