About
East Valley Children’s Theatre Programs offers children’s acting classes, troupes, camps, workshops, master classes, and playwriting festivals, along with contests and Main Stage Productions. Participants can take part in performing arts instruction that includes acting classes, improv, musical theatre, technical theatre, and adaptive theatre, and they can audition for performances and participate in acting camps such as Spring Break Camp.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Spring classes start the week of January 20, with Spring Classes Session I beginning January 20 and Spring Classes Session II beginning March 23; Spring Break Camp has Session I starting March 9 and Session II starting March 16
East Valley Children’s Theatre has been an artistic force in the East Valley since 1997 and has grown from one production and one workshop annually to an award-winning children’s theatre. It is a founding resident company of the Mesa Arts Center and offers shows that typically last for 60 to 70 minutes. The organization serves children ages 3 to 18 years and describes its approach as “Theatre for Kids by Kids,” welcoming children across the East Valley regardless of background, education, or experience performing.
Since 1997, East Valley Children’s Theatre has been managed and staffed by professionals with specialized educational and theatrical experiences, governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, and supported by teams of volunteers with professional skills and knowledge. It is managed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors and led by an experienced, degreed staff. The mission of East Valley Children’s Theatre is to provide transformative theatre experiences, nurture creativity, and foster inclusivity for young people, their families, and the community.
East Valley Children’s Theatre partners with educators and youth-centered organizations to coordinate field trips and on-site performances, and in the last season performed for more than 600 Title I students. It cultivates a network of community support to help sustain the future of the organization and offers a variety of scholarships that support learning opportunities so every child has a chance to experience live children’s theatre.
One participant shared, “EVCT has helped me believe in magic ever since I walked into my first rehearsal.” A parent testimonial from Craig B. in Arizona states that his daughter experienced a new and different kind of confidence compared to playing sports and that he has been impressed with the leadership and production effort put forward by East Valley Children’s Theatre.
