Harmony Project Phoenix is an afterschool program dedicated to K–12 students and provides free, high-quality music education to children from low-income communities through year-round music-mentoring programs. The program offers a network of music instruction, social support, and college success programming at no cost and serves over 350 children and youth throughout the greater Phoenix area. Its mission states that Harmony Project harnesses the transformative power of music to increase access to higher education for underserved students by removing systemic barriers to achievement through academic and social support.
A recent study conducted by Community Service Analysis LLC reported a 10-year projected net impact of $1,382,000 from Harmony Project Phoenix services, with 85% of that impact composed of increased employment earnings compared to high school students who do not complete a bachelor’s degree by attending college, and found that for every dollar of funding received, the program delivered $4.89 in discounted net present value of positive economic benefits to the community. The leadership and instructional team includes roles such as Executive Director, directors of specific ensembles, site coordinators, and instructors for instruments including flute, violin, double bass, percussion, guitar, saxophone, clarinet, low brass, trumpet, cello, and woodwinds, as well as choir, musicianship, and ASL Choir. The board leadership includes a chairperson, an executive director who also serves as board secretary, a treasurer, and additional directors.
