About
The Nash Education Programs include chances for students to join an ensemble, take a class, and attend jazz performances. Instruction in these programs covers jazz standards, music theory, ear training, and improvisation. The programs also include clinics throughout the valley’s schools.
The Nash Education Programs operate within a broader organization whose mission statement is that The Nash is where jazz lovers gather to celebrate this uniquely American art form. Its programs for students in schools throughout the Greater Phoenix area cultivate the next generation of jazz musicians. The Nash is described as Arizona’s #1 Jazz Venue, a concert club, and a learning space, and its jazz club is an all-ages venue that presents live music nearly 300 nights each year. The organization has undertaken a multimillion-dollar expansion of the jazz venue and education, and has offered a free concert at The Nash for second graders from Sheely Farms Elementary School. The Nash Education Programs have been featured on AZ Daily Mix, and The Nash/Act One Concerts have appeared on Channel 12 News.
The leadership team for The Nash Education Programs includes Dr. Clark Gibson as Education Director; Mary Petrich as Director of The Nash Women’s Initiative; and instructors Christina Hall for The Nash Jazz Vocal Ensemble, Eric Rasmussen and Natalie Gallatin for The Nash Legacy Ensembles, Arsen Nalbandian for The Nash Legacy Ensembles, and Beth Lederman for the Futures Ensemble. Dr. Clark Gibson has a bachelor's degree in Musical Arts from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle and master’s and doctorate degrees in Jazz Studies from the University of Illinois. Christina Hall recently completed her MM in Choral Conducting at Arizona State University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Choral Music Education from Northern Arizona University, and she is a soprano in the GRAMMY-award-winning ensemble, the Phoenix Chorale. Eric Rasmussen holds a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from California Institute of the Arts and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance at the New England Conservatory. Beth Lederman earned a B.A. in Music from Arizona State University.
