Anaheim Ballet directors Lawrence Rosenberg and Sarma Lapenieks Rosenberg co-direct the Anaheim Ballet and the AB School Summer Intensive program. Guest faculty represent training from American Ballet Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet, Houston Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet, New York City Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet. Lawrence Rosenberg was a member of Eliot Feld Ballet in New York, worked on the West Coast in television and film, is a current faculty member at Chapman University, presents Anaheim Ballet’s Segerstrom Center for the Arts’ Arts Teach performances, and is frequently a West Coast guest teacher for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Sarma Lapenieks Rosenberg serves as resident choreographer for Anaheim Ballet, has created full-length and one-act works for the company, and is the recipient of a Congressional Certificate from Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, a Soroptomist Award for her use of dance in promoting International Goodwill and Understanding, and the American Business Women’s Association “Woman of Distinction Award.” Alexander “Sasha” Greschenko is formerly Bolshoi Ballet, Vladimir Kolsenikov is formerly Mariinsky Ballet, Nilas Martins is formerly New York City Ballet, Rasta Thomas is described as an International Dance Icon, John Kirby is a Hollywood Acting Coach, and Bob Garrett is a Broadway and Hollywood Vocal Coach.
Anaheim Ballet School’s training methodology is based on the Russian, French, and Italian schools, which the Rosenbergs call “truly the American method, the best of everything!” A strong kinetic methodology, heavily influenced by movement analyst Joanna Kneeland, is predominant in all classes, drawing from the principles of physics and the belief that ballet is a natural system of movement. Training emphasizes developing strong technique, promoting a healthy lifestyle, inspiring artistry, building good character, and instilling a sense of community and purpose through the arts.
The program combines innovative classical ballet training and coaching with a public performance, and daily repertory rehearsal in classical ballet repertory culminates in this public performance. The Junior Intensive includes coaching to learn a classical ballet variation and an in-studio showcase. Anaheim Ballet School offers classes for all levels, ages 3 years to adults, and income-qualified Anaheim youth can train in ballet at no cost through the STEP-UP! Outreach Program. Anaheim Ballet School is a vendor with Blue Ridge Academy, Cabrillo Point Academy, Compass Charter, Epic Charter, Excel Academy, Granite Mountain Charter, iLEAD, Inspire, Mission Vista Academy, Pacific Coast Academy, Sage Oak Charter, and Sky Mountain Charter. Anaheim Ballet is a 501c3 not for profit organization.
