About

Youth Rec League offers youth ice recreational leagues that include hockey games, skill development sessions, skill development clinics, and draft skates. Participants take part in a mix of scheduled games and on-ice skill work across different age group divisions. The program includes organized draft skates before league play.

• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: League includes 20 ice slots. 6U and 8U include 10 games and 10 skill development sessions. 10U–12U include 12 games and 8 skill development clinics. 14U–17U include 12 games and 8 skill development clinics. Draft Skates are held on Saturday, July 11, with 6/8U at 2:45 p.m., 10U at 4:00 p.m., 12U at 5:15 p.m., and 14/17U at 6:45 p.m.
• Price: Program Fees: Paid in Full – $630. Three-payment option – $670 ($335 due at registration, $167.50 due August 11, $167.50 due September 11).

All East Division Draft Skates are held at The Rinks – Anaheim ICE. Youth ice recreational leagues are open for players of all ages and ability levels, with an environment that promotes foundational growth appropriate to each specific age level and age-specific skill development in accordance with USA Hockey's American Development Model. All 6U and 8U games are played as modified half-ice or cross-ice games, and The Rinks and Great Park Ice reserve the right to adjust program formats as needed. Full equipment is required to participate, neck protection is required for all youth programs beginning June 2024, a 2026–2027 USA Hockey membership is required for participation, and a The Rinks jersey package can be purchased.

The philosophy of the program is to provide an alternative to play the game within the community and have fun while doing it, with an environment allowing participants to learn the fundamentals of hockey and engage in an active lifestyle. The focus of the recreation program is based on the principles of learning, respecting, and having fun while playing the game of hockey, with the goal of deepening participants’ understanding and passion for the sport. The youth programs are recognized as a Model Club Association through USA Hockey. Leadership for related rinks and programs includes division leads Vince Valles (West/Lakewood ICE), Jon Mainberger (East/Anaheim ICE, KHS ICE, Yorba Linda ICE), Nico Santoro (South/Great Park Ice & FivePoint Arena), and Dean Wilson (Poway ICE), along with The Rinks Vice President Art Trottier, General Manager Gary Shaffer, Hockey Director David Walker, Hockey Manager Jon Mainberger, Adult Hockey Coordinator Brandon Castagna, Youth Hockey Coordinator Carlos Rich, Director of Figure Skating Alex Chang, Skating Manager Chris Pottenger, Operations Coordinator Jennifer Castaneda, Assistant Managers Evan Harder, Seth Cardwell, Devon Feicht, and Matt Carroll, and Lead Katelynn Jacobs.
