Youth Rec League offers youth ice recreational leagues that include hockey games, skill development sessions, skill development clinics, and Draft Skates. The program includes 20 ice slots that are divided into games and skill development for different age groups. All 6U and 8U games are run as modified half-ice or cross-ice games.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Draft Skates on Saturday, April 11, with 6/8U at 2:00 p.m., 10U at 3:15 p.m., 12U at 4:30 p.m., and 14/17U at 5:45 p.m.
• Price: Program Fees: Paid in Full - $630; Three-payment Option - $670; $335 due at registration; $167.50 due May 18; $167.50 due June 18
For 6U and 8U, the league includes 10 games and 10 skill development sessions. For 10U–12U, the league includes 12 games and 8 skill development clinics. For 14U–17U, the league includes 12 games and 8 skill development clinics. Full equipment is required to participate, neck protection is required for all youth programs beginning June 2024, and 2025-2026 USA Hockey membership is required for participation.
The stated philosophy of Youth Rec League is to provide an alternative to play the game within the community and have fun while doing it, with an environment that allows participants to learn the fundamentals of hockey and engage in an active lifestyle. The focus of the recreation program is based on the principles of learning, respecting, and having fun while playing hockey, with a goal of deepening participants’ understanding and passion for the sport.
The youth programs are recognized as a Model Club Association through USA Hockey and follow age-specific skill development in accordance with USA Hockey's American Development Model. The Rinks and Great Park Ice reserve the right to adjust program formats as needed to support the best and safest environment for guests, families, and staff.
Leadership for the program includes Vice President, The Rinks – Art Trottier; General Manager – Gary Shaffer; Hockey Director – David Walker; Hockey Manager – Jon Mainberger; Adult Hockey Coordinator – Brandon Castagna; Youth Hockey Coordinator – Carlos Rich; Director of Figure Skating, The Rinks – Alex Chang; Skating Manager – Chris Pottenger; Operations Coordinator – Jennifer Castaneda; Assistant Managers: Evan Harder, Seth Cardwell, Devon Feicht; and Leads: Mathew Carroll and Dan Meadors.
