Atascadero Recreation Programs offers activities such as scootering, skateboarding, pickleball, yoga, painting, soccer, basketball, Aquatics, T-Ball, Volleyball, card games, badminton, and Drop-in Basketball. The Teen Center offers a variety of games and sports for teens from 6th to 12th grade, with daily activities facilitated by staff. These classes are led by experienced instructors who are passionate about their craft.

Atascadero Recreation offers seasonal youth sports including Aquatics, Basketball, T-Ball, Volleyball, Pickleball, and Start Smart Sports programs, as well as an adult basketball and kickball league and Drop-in Basketball for adults on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:00–2:00 p.m. The City offers programs for seniors including 55+ yoga, card games, badminton, and more. The Recreation Division is part of the Community Services Department and includes the Colony Park Community Center, parks, fields, and BBQ area rentals, along with A-Town Park for scootering and skateboarding, Pickleball Courts, Joy Playground, outdoor basketball courts, and other outdoor spaces. The City also offers a variety of camps and programs at the Central Coast Zoo (formerly the Charles Paddock Zoo). The Recreation Guide lists classes, sports, and activities that span fitness and wellness, arts and crafts, sports and recreation, dance and music, and educational workshops for children through adults.

By offering these classes and recreational programs, the City is able to foster an active and vibrant community, enhance personal well-being, and provide opportunities for residents to connect, learn, and have fun in a safe and welcoming environment. The recreation programs include events, community celebrations, and seasonal activities throughout the year, and members of the public are welcome to attend and provide input at public meetings of the City Council, commissions, boards, or committees. The City of Atascadero has received the 2025–2027 Excellence Award in Budgeting.
