• Ages: 4–18 years old
Since the first doors opened in 1966, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast has provided programs for local youth. The organization provides safe, educational, and fun programs for local youth between the ages of 6–18 and expanded programming in 2023 to include service to children enrolled in TK/Kindergarten programs. It offers safe, inclusive spaces and experiences that empower members’ learning and growth and provides youth with a safe place for afterschool child development programming as well as adults who mentor and tutor members. Afterschool programs offered include STEAM programs and help with homework, and members receive healthy daily snacks.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast supports all youth and teens – of every race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic status, and religion – in reaching their full potential. The organization oversees a budget of nearly $6 million raised from individual and corporate contributions, foundation and government grants, special events, and program service contracts. It benefits an additional 4,000 local children each year through outreach, including sponsored arts and sports programs.
Among members, 85% are Hispanic where Spanish is the predominant language spoken in the home, and 70% qualify for English Learner support in school. Approximately 33% of members come from single parent homes, and approximately 90% qualify for free or reduced meal programs during the school year based upon state and federal guidelines. Membership is 55% male and 45% female, with 17% of members being teenagers and 83% ages 6–12. Among teen members, 90% expect to graduate from high school and 85% expect to complete some kind of post-secondary education, and 86% of all Club members report that they can stand up for what they think is right, even if their friends disagree.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast and Good Samaritan Shelter partnered together for a fundraiser event, Rock ‘N Roll Bingo. An alumni statistic from the organization reports that “57% of Alumni say the club saved my life.”
