About

ELIO Academy of Biomedical Sciences offers hands-on summer camp genetics and cancer programs, online courses, and online immersive programs for high school students interested in biomedical sciences. The program includes mentor-guided research programs in medicine, biotechnology, neuroscience, genetics, and data science in healthcare, along with hands-on research experiences and guided research projects in genetics, neuroscience, pharmacology, and medical data science. Students also have access to collaborative research opportunities with a chosen partner and cohort-wide lectures, including a summer program for two weeks and an Extended Fall Research Program.

• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: Summer program for two weeks

ELIO Academy of Biomedical Sciences is a U.S.-based biomedical education organization offering summer research programs and pre-medical research experiences for high-school students. The program offers learning tracks called the Research Track, Accelerator Track, and Foundation Track, and students work on guided research projects that can culminate in posters, reports, or competition-ready submissions. ELIO Academy has a network of alumni who have previously participated in the programs and a Future Biomedical Professionals Group for networking and access to opportunities and resources. Live classes are taught by Silicon Valley based instructors, and students can request one-on-one or group meetings with mentors, with meticulous background and reference checks conducted for instructors.

Instructors are biomedical professionals with decades of work and teaching experience, including educators and researchers from institutions such as UCSF, MAYO Clinic, NIH, MD Anderson, and the University of Leeds. The instructor team is a U.S.-based group of biomedical career professionals, including research scientists, medical doctors, geneticists, and pharmacologists, with experts holding Ph.D, M.D, and Pharm.D degrees and more than 10 years of experience individually in their respective fields and careers. Instructors are 100% USA-based employees and have years of research and extensive publications in journals like Nature, British Journal of Hematology, Blood, and Molecular Cell Biology. The leadership team includes Natalie Stringer, Ph.D; Lane Lawley, Ph.D; Rebecca Nalloor, Ph.D; Josie Hayes, Ph.D; Juhi Ojha, Ph.D; Maëlle Locatelli, Ph.D; Jonathan Glassman, Ph.D; Brittany Araj, Ph.D; and Tammy Duong, Ph.D.

One student from St. Ignatius College, Chance White, described the courses as fast paced and highly informational, with concepts communicated through examples, case studies, and illustrations. Another student, Marissa Miller from International High School, SFO, highlighted the combination of collaborative research with a chosen partner, cohort-wide lectures, and guidance from an experienced mentor as an early introduction to the fundamentals of biomedical research. A student from Keystone School in San Antonio, Neerja Bathla, reported participating in a two-week summer program and the Extended Fall Research Program over two years and described the instructors as engaging, accommodating, and helpful. Francesca Chevarria Gomez from the Peruvian-German School stated that lectures were never boring and that the program was useful for students interested in science, and Sera Lee from Harbin Wanbang School noted gaining knowledge about neuroscience and receiving help from instructors during a project.
