• Ages: 5–11 years old

Scientific Adventures for Girls delivers afterschool STEM programs to TK–6th grade students, with a special focus on girls of color from low-income families and communities, and offers girls-only programs for families who want that experience. The organization states that it is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and values inclusiveness. Its mission is to change the face of science and give all girls an opportunity to discover and engage in STEM to close the gender gap, and to inspire them with hands-on learning opportunities and encourage lifelong learning of STEM subjects.

The leadership team includes Amy Miller as Executive Director and co-founders Tiffany Sprague and Courtenay Carr Heuer, who are experienced professionals in nonprofit management. Amy Miller was honored with the PG&E Power Forward Award at a Golden State Valkyries game. One parent, Jazmyne M., described her kindergartener as a “budding scientist” and credited the program, thanking Scientific Adventures for Girls for its dedication to changing the face of science so it reflects young women like her daughter.

Scientific Adventures for Girls has served over 10,000 children and families across 37 school sites through its STEM programs in the San Francisco East Bay area. The organization works with families, school districts, after school agencies, corporations, public libraries, politicians, and universities to add high-quality STEM components to programs, advise on STEM education needs, provide professional development and on-the-job training for teachers, and bring STEM role models into classes.
