Open Minds Early School

Open Minds Early School offers Spanish immersion, homework support, creative projects, and music as part of its program. The program includes long-term projects that build on students’ interests and uses multifaceted learning channels that range from art to technology. It also offers an After School Program for toddlers through 5th grade.

Open Minds Early School integrates the Reggio Emilia philosophy with Spanish immersion and uses Spanish as a medium of exploration and discovery. The program follows a child-centered, play-based approach and describes itself as a premier early childhood education program that focuses on innovation and multilingual competency. Its educators use the latest pedagogical strategies, bring diverse global perspectives, and include expert, diverse educators from over six Spanish-speaking countries.

The mission of Open Minds Early School is to ignite the spark of lifelong learning in every child by providing education tailored to each child’s needs. The mission also states that the program fosters an inclusive, play-based environment inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, teaches love, respect, empathy, and teamwork, and involves both children and their families to support well-being, stability, and love.

The founders and leadership team include Karen Hernandez, who is the founder and Academic Director, and Jesus Bolivar, who is a founder of Open Minds Early School. The school is connected to I.E. Juan XXIII, which was founded in 1964. Open Minds Early School is described as being nestled in Oakland, California in the communities of Piedmont and the Montclair District.
