About

Cub Scouts – Piedmont Council Scouting America includes activities such as exploring new trails, discovering creatures big and small, pitching a tent, using a compass, cooking over an open fire, and playing in the great outdoors. Cub Scouts take part in hikes, campouts, short outings and events, Family Highlander Hikes, crafts, games, making and eating festive treats, building sailboats to race in the rain gutter regatta, and participating in Bike Fest with an adventurous bike obstacle course, speed tests, and a bike-powered smoothie blender. They also join programs such as Webeloree, Twilight Camp, Cub Scout Day Camp, Archery Day, and an open house practice race for the Pinewood Derby, along with learning-based activities, scout skills, cooking, egg drop challenges, field trips, and community service projects like Scouting for Food and distributing door hangers across Piedmont.

For more than 100 years, the Piedmont Council has prepared Piedmont youth for life and now serves boys and girls aged 5–18 with Cub Scouting as one of its programs. The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Cub Scout dens are grade specific and led by trained adults, and Cub Scout Packs meet to showcase activities and receive awards. Piedmont Council supports programs with a dedicated professional staff of four, a volunteer board, and over 150 trained volunteers, and reports that 25% of Piedmont youth participate in Scouting programs every year. Piedmont Council welcomes anyone within its extended community who is willing to try to live by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law, and anyone, including those who attend school outside Piedmont, is welcome to join any Pack. Cub Scouts take part in community service through Scouting for Food in partnership with the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and Scouting benefits the community through thousands of service hours that include Piedmont Community Service Crew projects and scout-led Eagle projects. One parent testimonial from Nancy and Wes Steiml states that Scouts has given their boys challenging outdoor adventures, team building situations, leadership practice, friendships, and a variety of engaging achievements that they believe will have a life-long impact.
