UC Berkeley Youth Recreation Summer Camps offers activities that include developmental sports, outdoor learning, exploratory science, arts and crafts, science, skateboarding, martial arts, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, shoreline exploration, hands-on outdoor activities, rock climbing, and belay skills. Campers also take part in knot-tying, top-rope climbing, equipment care, sit-on-top kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, rigging, tacking, gybing, capsizing, docking, knots, windsurfing, balance, steering, self-rescues, sea kayaking, paddling techniques, safety procedures, and rescue skills. Teen participants can join leadership training that includes job-related skills, volunteer opportunities, hands-on experience with children and camp activities, mentorship, and hands-on responsibilities.

UC Berkeley Youth Recreation Summer Camps have been making summers fun for campers and easy for families for more than 60 years. Camp registration for summer 2026 is open. Multi-Activity Day Camps allow campers to sample an array of activities appropriate for their age and interests, with time for fun, silliness and time with friends. Skateboarding Camp is described as a nationally recognized program offering instruction in a unique skatepark environment with ramps and street obstacles. Marina Explorers is a half-day, beginner-friendly outdoor camp at the Berkeley Marina. Adventures Youth Camps focus on new adventures, getting outside, moving, and exploring the Bay Area’s natural wonders. Teen Leadership Programs provide experiential opportunities to develop leadership skills that can be applied to all aspects of life. Counselors-in-Training (age 15) provides volunteer opportunities to build foundational leadership skills through hands-on experience with children and camp activities. Junior Counselors (ages 16–17) are paid junior staff who develop leadership and professional skills through mentorship and hands-on responsibilities.

Instruction in UC Martial Arts Program (UCMAP) clubs is carried out by high-ranking instructors in their particular martial arts, many of whom are themselves students of Dr. Ken Min. The UC Martial Arts Program of the University of California’s Berkeley campus has existed since 1969, and the future of the UCMAP was secured in 1995 with an award of a one-million-dollar endowment. The program’s leadership includes Dr. Russell Ahn, Director of the UC Martial Arts Program, and Dr. Ken Min, founder of the UC Martial Arts Program. It is the purpose of the Martial Arts Program to preserve the philosophy, techniques, and traditions of martial arts and to develop a scientific understanding of the physical and spiritual implications of human performance.

The UC Martial Arts Program offers classes not only to Cal students but to the residents of Berkeley and neighboring communities. UCMAP and its six clubs are active in organizing and hosting instructional seminars, symposiums, and martial art camps, as well as in furthering the presence of martial arts in collegiate, national and world competitions. UCMAP has partnerships with Yongin University and Korean National Sport University. The Korean Ministry of Culture and Sports awarded money to UC Berkeley to ensure that the program would continue to teach Asian philosophy and culture for years to come.

UC Berkeley Youth Recreation Summer Camps are described as a nationally recognized program for Skateboarding Camp. UCMAP boasts Olympic hopefuls. The future of the UCMAP was secured in 1995 with an award of a one-million-dollar endowment by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Republic of Korea, and the World Taekwondo Federation, and the Korean gift is officially named the Ken Min Endowed Directorship for Taekwondo and the Martial Arts. The UC Martial Arts Program is described as an expanding, dynamic organization dedicated to providing outstanding martial arts instruction to the campus and surrounding communities, and as unique in its amalgamation of athleticism and scholarship, vision and history, innovation, and tradition. The UC Martial Arts Program is described as one of the top producers of martial artists in the country. The Universal Locker Room at the RSF is described as an award-winning facility.
