Additional options include Women's Classes, Date Night Ranch, a Leadership Program, Field Trips, and activities for Girl Scouts.
• Ages: 1–12 years old
Prancing Princess Pony teaches children responsibility, independence, and confidence in a clean, safe and fun outdoor environment, with the goal of providing experiences that fill children with a passion for horses and teach developmental life skills. The program describes that children can be outside in nature surrounded by horses, make new friends, learn new skills, and make memories to last a lifetime. The program operates by appointment only and is not open on any major holidays, and it provides helmets for each child, with helmets consistently cleaned.
Owner Brittney Bertel has been teaching for 15 years and riding horses for 21 years, both Western and English, with Western as her main riding style and Barrel Racing as her passion. She worked at the Oakley Union Elementary School District from 2012–2020 and is the mother of a 3-year-old son. Her mother, Cory Van Rooyen, has 6 years of experience working with children at the Oakley Union Elementary School District with the literacy support team and 2 1/2 years as a campus supervisor working with students of every grade level. Loree Rister ran a licensed DayCare for 8 years, has been involved with Rafter D Ranch for over 25 years, and has been an Office/Barn Manager, horse exerciser, and horseback riding instructor for approximately 10 years. The program notes “15 years of making children smile” and shares that its name comes from Brittney’s first horse, Amira, whose name means princess in Arabic and who is at the highest height of a pony in equine height standards.
Prancing Princess Pony states that horses are described as a doctor recommended form of therapy. The program thanks ranch owner Dan Galvin for allowing its services on the ranch and providing a safe clean environment, and it invites families to view its “Better In Brentwood Spotlight.” The program has been decreasing prices over the last few weeks to help keep them accessible to more families and children. It requires that all students wear pants, a comfortable T-shirt that can get dirty, and closed toed shoes at all times, and that girls with long hair have it pulled back into a braid; it also notes that boots can be purchased at Target, Horse.com, or Boot Barn. The program states that students will not ride at every Toddler & Me class.
