Since 1994, Kelly has been teaching swimming to adults and children, and The Swim Pro was started in 2006. The leadership team includes Mandy Chui (Scheduling Director), Kelly McPhail (Owner / CEO), Laura Seales (Program Director), Sven Schutz (Lead Instructor), and instructors Darcy Hudson, Jonathan Weils, and Olivia McPhail. All instructors at The Swim Pro are First Aid and CPR Certified and trained in The Swim Pro’s teaching foundations. The program’s mission is to give a safe, patient environment where swimmers can learn to swim, address water-related fears, and improve technique at their own pace.
The Swim Pro is a woman owned small business and offers private lessons with no registration fees and no minimum lesson purchase. The program provides fully customizable online booking, a rewards program where families can earn up to 50% off, and a Last Minute Lesson Club for deals on lessons and filling immediate openings. It offers three specialized programs for adults, a Toddler Pre-Swim Program as an alternative to typical parent/child classes, and private instruction for toddlers with one student to one instructor. The Swim Pro uses a proven adult teaching method created by Kelly McPhail, success-based teaching methods that make learning to swim happen one step at a time, and an innovative approach that brings results, and it is known for teaching the “unteachable.” The program states that everyone who commits to a session learns to swim and offers a personalized swimming experience designed for unique goals, with instructors’ individual strengths and creativity encouraged to create an individualized learning experience. Two warm water pools are open year round.
The Swim Pro donates 10% of each lesson to charity: water. One testimonial from Josh S. states that within the first one-hour private lesson he made years’ worth of improvement and recommends The Swim Pro for private swimming lessons. Denise from Campbell, CA, shares that after trying multiple swim schools, this was the first place that taught her to be comfortable in the water, and by lesson five or six she was able to jump into the deep end. Liv from Mountain View, CA, reports that her son started lessons in fall 2019 with minimal swim experience and by the end of the year could swim from the deep end to the shallow end, tread water, float, use different swim strokes, and use breathing technique. Cyndi from San Jose, CA, a woman over 50, describes learning the “turtle” on day one, learning to float and propel her legs and feet on day two, and starting to swim by her fourth lesson in an eight-session series.
