Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley Summer Camp is part of the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley, which offers fun, safe and welcoming spaces during critical hours of the day. Youth at the Club take part in positive social activities with peers, tutoring and enrichment programs that support academic success, and sports, fitness, and wellness programs that include learning about healthy eating and lifestyles.

Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley was founded in 1992 by a group of community leaders in response to the need for safe, affordable, educational and productive activities for at-risk youth during non-school hours. For the first 10 years, it relied on space at local schools, and in 2004 it purchased a two-story, 10,000-square-foot facility; in 2013, it opened a Teen Center directly across the street from the Gary M. Thomas Clubhouse. The organization serves more than 4,000 San Fernando Valley youth at its main facilities and eleven area school sites and has a vision to build the community’s social and economic fabric by ensuring the academic and career success of every participant who walks through their doors. The mission of Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible adults. The Club operates with a commitment that no youth is ever turned away because of a potential cost barrier, supported through its Sponsor a Member program, and its leadership team includes CPO Kelly Ventimiglia and CEO Geovanny Ragsdale.
Community members and public officials have described the Club’s impact in the San Fernando Valley. Publisher Kathleen Sterling has noted the dedication of adults involved with the Club, including alumni such as Marty Cooper and actor Denzel Washington. Senator Henry Stern has stated that he has seen the Club’s power to change and save lives and called it a generous, diverse and unified Valley resource for the next generation. Senator Bob Hertzberg has described the Club as a positive force that supports and mentors youths from all backgrounds, and Councilmember Bob Blumenfield has said the Club transforms lives, inspires young minds, builds leadership skills, and has become an integral part of the community. Congressman Brad Sherman has said the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley inspires youth to dream big and gives them tools to realize those dreams.
