About
Mermaid Series Youth Events & Clinics includes several specific activities such as Swim Clinic #1, Swim Clinic #2, Swim Clinic #3, and a Tri & Du Clinic. The program also offers chances to practice open water swimming, swim, bike, run, and to do a mini Tri or mini Du. Participants may also take part in run, walk, jog, and hike activities as part of the clinics.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Swim clinics and the Tri & Du Clinic run from 9:00 AM to noon
• Price: Tri & Du Clinic cost: $54.00; Swim clinic cost: $49.00
The See Her Swim clinics within the program are organized and offered by Morgan Filler, a renowned open water swim coach. The program offers three different 1-day training clinics. Swim clinics cover all aspects of open water swimming and give participants a chance to practice swimming the same course as in the race. The Tri & Du Clinic focuses on setting up a transition area and then practicing a swim, bike, run, with triathletes doing the sprint distance swim and practicing transitions from swim to bike to run, and duathletes practicing the run and transitions from run to bike to run. The clinic format gives participants the chance to do a mini Tri or mini Du.
Clinics are limited to 45 women for the Tri & Du Clinic and 40 women for the swim clinic. Volunteers are in the water to help guide participants around the Capitola wharf, and participants are broken up into groups depending on swimming skills and abilities. Participants in the Tri & Du Clinic and swim clinics are instructed to bring swim gear including goggles, swim cap, swim suit, wetsuit, and towel, and wearing a wetsuit is highly recommended. Wetsuits can be rented at most all Sports Basements. Families who sign up for any two of the Mermaid clinics receive a Mermaid Capitola training shirt. The program has partnered with See Her Swim for additional swim clinics in San Francisco at Aquatic Park.
