UCCE Contra Costa, 4-H Youth Development Program, 2380 Bisso Ln STE B, Suite B, Concord, CA 94520
About
The Contra Costa County 4-H Youth Development Program includes hands-on activities such as animal science, outdoor cooking, robotics and STEM, public speaking, arts and crafts, community service, leadership development, building rockets, raising companion dogs, and planting vegetables. In UC 4-H, youth design and participate in their own programs and activities, and members choose projects, set goals, practice skills, present their work, and serve their community. Project groups and Community Clubs typically meet in the evenings or on weekends, and UC 4-H Community Clubs are comprised of youth who are supervised by approved adult volunteers.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
4-H is open to youth ages 5–8 as Primary members, youth ages 9–18 as Regular members, and adults who want to serve as volunteers. UC 4-H Community Clubs elect youth officers and have an approved constitution and bylaws to govern the club. Every club is led by screened and trained adult volunteers. The 4-H mission states that it is the largest youth development organization in the nation and that it helps young people reach their full potential as competent, confident leaders of character who contribute and are connected to their communities. UC 4-H serves youth 5–19 years old throughout California in urban, suburban, and rural communities, and 4-H welcomes youth of all abilities, backgrounds, and experiences, with a commitment to providing equal access and reasonable accommodations so every young person can participate fully. Youth ages 5–18 can serve their communities and have opportunities to participate in a wide range of county, regional, or state events and conferences where they meet other youth, learn new skills, provide a community service, and/or show their project work.
