Mirror Image Dance Company Youth Programs was founded in 2009 by Marlaina Schroeder Spivey. The Tiny Tots program has two levels: Level 1 for ages 18–24 months and Level 2 for ages 25–36 months, and it uses a Parent/Guardian & Me format in a fun and relaxed environment. Minis classes are tailored for dancers aged 3 to 6, including Mini A at 3 years old and Mini C+ for 5–6 year-olds with program approval. Petite classes are for grades 1–3, Junior classes are for grades 4–6 with multiple Acro levels, Teen classes are for grades 7–9 including pre-pointe, Pointe, and Advanced Jazz Technique, and Senior classes are for grades 10–12 tailored to the advanced dancer.
The Pure Joy Program is an exclusive dance experience for dancers with disabilities, with small class sizes and a low-stress environment that values each child as an individual. Pure Joy focuses on building strength, muscle control, fundamental technique, movement, musicality, social skills, spatial awareness, and relationships, and includes providing accommodations for a comfortable dancing experience.
Mirror Image Dance Company offers a Work Exchange Program to create a space where everyone can learn to express themselves through dance regardless of socioeconomic status. The first class is free for new dancers, with statements such as “Your first class is FREE” and “Register today for your free trial class!” The program offers Summer Camps and Intensives and provides a virtual tour of the MIDC studio.
Mirror Image Dance Company has an award-winning competition dance team and is a competitive dance team that performs throughout the state of California at various competitions each year. Each year they put on an award-winning showcase for the community. A dancer, Livia Berman, states that the coaches, Marlaina and Jaclyn, teach dancers how to be technically sound dancers and good people, and that she is fortunate to call Mirror Image her family and to have been part of the company throughout her childhood.
