The program also offers small group and semi private surf lessons, private surfing lessons, and an intermediate private paddle out lesson. • Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Kids summer surf camp daily surf camp runs Monday to Friday, 9am–1pm, from Monday June 15 to Friday August 14, with 3 day camps on 3 consecutive days most weeks in that period; daily surf camp sessions are 4 hours and beginner surf lessons are 2 hours.
• Price: Kids summer surf camp daily surf camp from Monday June 15 to Friday August 14 is $470; 3 day camp is $300 (with a listed week July 27–31 at $495); Small Group / Semi Private Surf Lessons are $120 per person; Private surfing lessons are $190; Private surfing lesson for 2 is $290; Intermediate private paddle out lesson is $190.
Leucadia Surf School includes a softboard with surf camp and surf lessons, and the Encinitas Surf Camp at Moonlight Beach includes a softboard and wetsuit. Group surf lessons have a 2-1 to 4-1 student to instructor ratio and are described as very effective, with participants always getting plenty of attention. The school states that surf lessons are designed so students can continue surfing on their own without further surf lessons, and that they are proactive on safety and use only softboards. They emphasize quick results, getting participants up and riding in easy waves on easy boards right away, even if they have never surfed before, and state, “This is the only surf lesson you will ever need to start surfing.” Their mottos include: “We know what you want in a surf lesson. It’s the same thing we want when we go surfing, and that is a lot of good rides.”; “You know we are good because our competition copies us.”; “Good waves, good boards, good instructors.”; and “We do surfing like it is supposed to be done.”
All instructors are CPR certified. Leucadia Surf School has been serving San Diego, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Cardiff by the Sea, Encinitas, Leucadia, Carlsbad and Oceanside since 2002, and was started at Grandview Beach in Leucadia. The owner and head instructor, Gerry Kantor, is a native of San Diego, wrote for Surfer Magazine in the 1980s, and is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego. The school describes itself as a low impact surf school that tries to keep a low profile and out of the way of the public, and states that originally Leucadia was known for soul surfing, meaning non-competitive surfing for the sake of surfing, and they like to keep it that way. Leucadia Surf School is #1 on Trip Advisor, and one Trip Advisor review states, “They gave me the best day of my life.”
