Steve & Kate’s Camp was created in 1980. The Encinitas site lists a director named Aviry. The camp follows a self-directed learning philosophy in which campers choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long. The program offers summer day camps for kids aged 4–12 and a mentorship program intended exclusively for children ages 14–15, where mentees help facilitate camp activities, engage with campers, and encourage camper connection and participation, with availability that may vary by location.

The camp’s mission states that during summer, it gives kids freedom to expand and evolve after being in rigid structure during the year, and that campers are empowered to be independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. Steve & Kate’s Camp includes traditions such as Find Chuckie (a rubber chicken) and Friday Pie-Day, as well as weekly specials like inflatables, performances, workshops, and a popup petting zoo.

Families can buy any number of days and send their child to camp on any day they choose, with drop-off and pick-up allowed at any time within camp hours. Long camp hours, snacks, lunch, and all activities are included in the all-inclusive rates. Unused purchased Day Passes are automatically refunded in full at the end of the season, and if a Summer Pass is underused, the difference compared with the daily rate is automatically refunded. As it gets closer to summer, registered families receive a virtual camp orientation with information about what to bring and not bring.

Steve & Kate’s Camp offers mentorship pricing that includes a Mentorship Day Pass Rate of $94, a Mentorship Summer Pass Rate of $2,350, and a rate of $0 for returning mentees. The program notes that Steve & Kate’s Camp offers mentorship programs for children aged 14 and 15, with availability that may vary by location.

The camp shares that families can learn more about its host school through an online link. Testimonials describe the camp experience, including a quote from Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, and comments from Apple’s Hot News, Variety magazine, The Washington Post, and the Chicago Tribune.
