About

Azevedo Water Polo Camps & Clinics offers shooting, blocking, passing, explosive shooting, beating a block, and shooting practice, along with intensive pool work and intensive pool training sessions. The program also includes live scrimmages, high-level scrimmages, skill assessments, detailed video breakdown, personalized virtual reality, virtual reality, chalk talks, mental and tactical work, conditioning, strength training, water polo strength, flexibility, and state-of-the-art gym and conditioning. Participants also have access to nutrition guidance, Q&A sessions covering college recruiting, professional play, and the Olympic experience, as well as college recruiting consultation.

• Schedule: Options include multi-day summer camps, single-day preparation camps, fall semester programs, and evening shooting clinics with set daytime or morning-to-midday hours depending on the specific session

The JO Prep Summer Camp runs July 13–17 from 1:00–4:00 pm daily, and the High Performance Preparation Camp runs August 3–7, 2026, from 8:30 am–12:00 pm for five days. The Back to School Preparation Camp meets Sunday, August 9, from 10:00 am–1:00 pm, and the Pepperdine Edition High Intensity Clinic runs August 10–14 from 8:00 am–1:00 pm for five days. The Azevedo/Steffens Bay Area Female Clinic Series meets on Saturdays, September 19, October 3, and October 17 from 11:00 am–3:30 pm, and the 6-8 Academy Fall Semester runs from September 1 to December 18, with additional Wednesday evening shooting sessions.

The camps and clinics are led by the 6-8 Academy coaching staff, including Tony Azevedo and Ricardo Azevedo, with guest coaches and a dedicated 6-8 Academy goalie coaching staff. High Performance Preparation Camp is limited to 22 field players and 4 goalies, the Pepperdine Edition High Intensity Clinic is limited to 22 field players and 6 goalies, the Back to School Preparation Camp is limited to 24 field players and 6 goalies, and the Azevedo/Steffens Bay Area Female Clinic Series is limited to 24 field players and 4 goalies with a dedicated goalie coach. On-campus live-in options are available for the High Performance Preparation Camp and the Pepperdine Edition High Intensity Clinic, and athletes have the opportunity for photos with Olympic and Pan American medals.

The program is led by Tony Azevedo, Ricardo Azevedo, Merrill Moses (Head Pepperdine Coach), Mike Tragitt (Assistant), and Maggie Steffens. Tony Azevedo is a 5-time Olympian and 2008 silver medalist, the all-time leading scorer at World Championships, and the first player to win 5 Pan American Games gold medals, and he was awarded Pac-12 Water Polo Player of the Century in 2015. Maggie Steffens is a 4-time Olympian and 3-time gold medalist, and Ricardo Azevedo is described as a world-renowned coach, with Merrill Moses serving as Head Pepperdine Coach and Mike Tragitt as an assistant.

Tony Azevedo’s stated goal is to grow the sport of water polo within the USA and abroad through his company 6-8 Sports. The 6-8 Sports Platform combines technologies with Olympic-level training to track performance, analyze data, and connect youth athletes with opportunities in water polo. The 6-8 Training Academy is described as the first high performance training academy for water polo in the world and runs as a semester-based, full-time and immersive training program, and the 6-8 College Showcase Series provides exposure to all US-based college coaches. The 908 Water Polo Club program is offered from the 9u to the 14u level with a focus on long-term growth and positive development.
