The mission of Holy Spirit’s CYO Program is to promote Christian values and the principles of the CYO philosophy through the vehicle of sports. The program states that CYO provides for the development of young people's spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and physical potential and is based on Catholic values. CYO offers guidance to assist young people as they assume responsibility for themselves and for their relationship with their faith, peers and community, and it strives to meet the diverse needs of all youth regardless of religious affiliation. Every CYO activity is described as encouraging youth growth and development towards Christian adulthood and has the specific purpose of developing in youth a sense of self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation and fair play through competitive team sports in which they practice the teaching of their faith.
The program describes the CYO coach as serving the team with a Youth Ministry philosophy and as more than a sports technician, acting as an important role model for young people. It states that ultimate responsibility for the success of the CYO program lies with the volunteer adult participant and that adults involved in CYO must remember that the program exists for the Christian growth of young people. The mission further states that conduct of adults must always model Christian values and virtues, and that when adults remain faithful to the Christian ideals of CYO, they exercise a unique and rewarding ministry to the young with whom they come in contact. Holy Spirit’s CYO Program also states that it aims to promote good sportsmanship, team building and friendly relationships among players, coaches, officials, program administrators, parents, spectators and the parish community, to promote loyalty to CYO ideals to both the youth and the parish community, and to remain faithful to the Christian ideals of CYO while serving youth.
The program notes community connections through its parish community website, which includes references to Faith Formation Classes, Holy Spirit Church, Holy Spirit School, and league information. Holy Spirit CYO Athletics also lists “2025 4th Grade Diocese Champs!” as a credential or award.
