About

Chess Camp for Chess Champs offers a chess camp with group classes, private classes, and access to scholastic tournaments, adult tournaments, and a scholastic QUADS tournament. The camp includes three levels of instruction: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Snacks are provided, and campers can receive fun prizes such as toys, books, chess materials, trophies, and more.

• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Summer camp for 10 weeks with full-day, half-day morning, and half-day afternoon options, plus a scholastic QUADS tournament on July 20, 2025
• Price: $590 full day/full week; $350 half day/full week; $140 full day/daily drop-in; $80 half day/daily drop-in; extras: $25 late pick up or early drop off; lunch $8/day (optional); multiple-week and sibling discounts available

The program offers full-day hours from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, half-day morning from 8:30 am to 12 pm, and half-day afternoon from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm, with AM extended care from 7:30–8:30 am and PM extended care from 4:30–6 pm. The scholastic QUADS tournament on July 20, 2025 runs from 1:30–4:00 pm, with arrival at 1:15 pm and rounds starting at 1:30 pm. The program has a no-refund policy but offers credits toward future classes or tournaments.

Chess Camp for Chess Champs is run by NorCal House of Chess, which offers world-class trainers and coaches, an outstanding curriculum, and flexible schedule options including full day, half day, and daily drop-in. NorCal House of Chess has produced State, National, and International Champions and has produced the youngest FIDE Master in the world. Members receive discounts in tournaments, free lectures from Grandmasters and International Masters, access to Wi-Fi, collections of books, CDs, and DVDs, coach referrals, and the option to be part of the team in national tournaments.

The leadership and coaching team includes Coach Ted Castro, International Master Omar Cartagena, Grandmaster Dejan Bojkov, FM William Aramil, and coaches Johnny, Saidel, and Pranav. Former Women’s World Champion and Grandmaster Susan Polgar has conducted several lectures and simultaneous exhibitions there. International Master Jennifer Shahade has conducted a girls chess camp and simul, GM Varuzhan Akobian frequently conducts chess camps, simuls, and lectures, top Australian GM Ian Rogers has conducted lectures, and GM Ray Robson has done a simul and lecture at the club.

NorCal House of Chess began in 2008 as Newark Chess Club in a small room inside the Newark Public Library, and over the past 15 years the chess center has been visited by several chess celebrities. It was voted the #1 chess club in the country in 2015 by the United States Chess Federation and has won the USAT Nationals three times. The organization states that whether a child is a beginner or an advanced player, it can train that child and will continue its tradition of breeding State, National, and International Champions.
