• Schedule: Summer camp runs for 10 weeks with full day (8:30 am–4:30 pm) and half day (8:30 am–12 pm or 1:00–4:30 pm) options, plus AM extended care (7:30–8:30 am) and PM extended care (4:30–6 pm) available upon request.

The camp is run by NorCal House of Chess, which describes itself as the Home of the Champions and the #1 Chess Club in the US, voted by the United States Chess Federation in 2015. The program offers three levels—Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced—and notes that it trains the best kids in Northern California and has produced several State, National, and International Champions. NorCal House of Chess reports that its members can receive discounts in tournaments, free lectures from time to time with Grandmasters and International Masters, Wi-Fi on site, access to collections of books, CDs, and DVDs, and coach referrals, and that participants can be part of their team when they compete in national tournaments.
The camp features world-class trainers and coaches, including International Master Omar Cartagena, Grandmaster Dejan Bojkov, former Women World Champion and Grandmaster Susan Polgar, International Master Jennifer Shahade, GM Varuzhan Akobian, GM Ian Rogers, and GM Ray Robson. NorCal House of Chess states that it has produced several top players who have made it into the Top 100 Nationwide List, State Champions, National Champions, Silver and Gold Medalists in the North American Chess Championship, Silver and Gold Medalists in the World Youth Chess Championship and Pan American Youth, and also the youngest FIDE Master in the world. The organization notes that it has won the USAT Nationals three times and that its chess center has been visited by several chess celebrities over the past 15 years.
The program’s mission states that whether a child is a beginner or an advanced player, NorCal House of Chess can train that child and will continue its tradition of breeding State, National, and International Champions. The chess club began in 2008 as Newark Chess Club in a small room inside the Newark Public Library and reports that it has since become popular and attracted many kids from across Northern California. Snacks are provided during camp, lunch can be added for an extra fee, and the program lists fun prizes such as toys, books, chess materials, trophies, and more, with a no-refund policy but credits offered for future classes or tournaments.
