About
Evolution Music Conservatory - Let's Start a Band & Music Lessons offers rock bands, jazz bands, choirs, and music lessons, including piano, drums, guitar, and music production. Students can take a free 30-minute private trial lesson, choose their instrument, preferred day and time, and instructor, and receive instruction in tools such as GarageBand and FL Studios. Bands meet weekly to work toward mastering 3–5 songs over three months and take part in outdoor concert performances every three months.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekly 50-minute sessions with multiple group class options Monday–Saturday; trial lessons are 30 minutes
• Price: Participation in the Creation Band & Choral Academy requires the first month's tuition up front ($119), with tuition billed automatically per month and 30 days’ notice required for cancellation
Evolution Music Conservatory was founded in 2015 by Donato McDermott, who developed the EMC education model after attending the Musician's Institute and teaching in Los Angeles for 20 years. EMC describes itself as a family owned and operated business and a community of life-long music lovers, with educators who have extensive experience teaching children and adults of all ages. The program groups bands by age, allows students to pick their own band name, and includes a limited-edition band t-shirt with enrollment; choir enrollment includes professional choral folders, and outdoor concert performances occur every three months as part of ongoing participation in the Creation Band & Choral Academy.
Trial lessons are free to reserve and free if families sign up for ongoing lessons, and students are asked to bring only their curiosity, with no instrument required unless they already have one. During the trial lesson, the instructor focuses on the music the child already loves, breaks down the components of the chosen instrument, and tailors the EMC curriculum to the student’s learning abilities and objectives, with an emphasis on having a musical mentor who personally cares about the progression of the child’s education. Many students have gained acceptance to the Berklee College of Music after studying with EMC for years.
Parents describe EMC as a place where children and adults take piano, drums, guitar, ukulele, rock band, and music production lessons, including GarageBand and FL Studios. In their testimonials, families mention instructors such as Donato, Nick, and Amy, note that students have joined school-formed rock bands with peers their age, and highlight recitals and outdoor performances as part of their experience. Several parents state that their children look forward to lessons, enjoy trying different instruments, and appreciate the chance to explore music in a way that matches the music they already like.
