San Gabriel Valley Chinese Cultural Association Martial Arts & Cultural Classes offers lion dancing, dragon dancing, instrumentation, Chinese watercolor, calligraphy, martial arts, and crafts. The program is part of a family-oriented organization that teaches these cultural classes for all ages.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
The San Gabriel Valley Chinese Cultural Association was founded in 1968 to share and preserve Chinese culture and to share these interests with the community at large. SGVCCA is home to Southern California’s longest steam-breathing Chinese dragon, described as a red and black dragon that blows steam from its mouth, and has been the only group with a steam-blowing, custom-made Chinese dragon in Southern and Northern California. SGVCCA teaches people of all ages how to dragon dance about once every other year.
The SGVCCA Youth group takes part in numerous public and private events, including local parades and events, TV shows such as Law and Order: Las Vegas and Good Day LA, a Maroon 5 music video, a UPS commercial, L.A. Clippers half-time shows, and many other appearances. It also performs at events such as grand openings and private weddings.
