BUTOKUDEN Martial Arts Dojo offers classes in Kendo, Karate, Aikido, Naginata, Jodo, Sogetsuryu Ikebana, Bushido culture, Yoga, Iaido, and Kado (Sogetsuryu Ikebana Flower Arrangement). Kendo classes are divided into groups for advanced students and beginners and are taught in both Japanese and English. The dojo’s Karate program is a branch of Enshin Karate, with its headquarters in Denver, Colorado.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Kendo classes are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for juniors and adults separately; Enshin Karate classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays; Iaido classes are held on Mondays and Saturdays; Jodo classes are held on Mondays and Fridays; Naginata classes are held every Saturday.
Jodo classes are taught with direct instruction from a Sensei who is described as one of the highest rank in the USA. Naginata classes are instructed by Naginata USA Team players and coaches. A free trial is offered for any of the classes. BUTOKUDEN, Inc. states that its ongoing mission is to provide access to activities and classes rooted in Japanese culture, to promote the preservation of Japanese values, traditions, history, and activities, and to spread Japanese culture through instruction to the greater Southern California community. The Bushido Culture program’s stated purpose is to learn and appreciate Bushido history, culture, traditions, customs, manners, etiquette, and related terminologies and concepts, including Japanese zen and zazen concepts through demonstrations, practices, and applications.
