IL-DO Taekwondo Martial Arts was established in Orange County in 1980 and has been a fixture for over 40 years in the city of Irvine, serving Orange County for 46 years. It was the first to establish a Taekwondo martial arts school in Irvine and now offers two convenient locations. The program is led by Grand Master Chang Jin Kang, who holds a 9th Degree Black Belt and trained directly under the founder of Taekwondo, Supreme Grandmaster Byung Jik Ro, along with Master Daniel Kang (7th Degree Black Belt, Kukkiwon certified), Ms. Lois Shim (5th Degree Black Belt, Kukkiwon certified), and Mr. Yoon Choi (5th Degree Black Belt, Kukkiwon certified). IL-DO Taekwondo is Kukkiwon certified and is part of the system that certifies students with World Taekwondo (WT) and Kukkiwon. According to the program’s mission statement, it uses a traditional martial arts foundation of character building, cultivating mind and body, and training through model behavior to raise respectable leaders for the purpose of civility, and Grand Master Chang Jin Kang’s mission is that through Taekwondo training, the true mindset of Taekwondo and hard work become part of the lives of children and young people so they may become leaders at the forefront of their generation.

Concordia University is the first institution to offer a bachelor’s degree course in Taekwondo outside of Korea, and this program was created by Grandmaster Chang Jin Kang. One parent, Victoria G., shared that her daughter has been attending for almost two years, loves it, finds everyone very nice and patient with the kids, and that they use motivating and exciting ways to teach; she also noted that her naturally shy daughter is becoming more confident through Taekwondo.
