UCI Brain Camp

UCI Brain Camp is a summer program for middle and high school students that offers immersion in neuroscience. During the second week, students design experiments, analyze data, and present their work to their families and to UC Irvine neuroscience faculty and students. The camp runs as a 2-week full-day program from 9am to 4pm and costs $2,995, which includes the camp fee, camp shirt, snack, lunch, and all materials.

About the provider

UCI Brain Camp was founded in 2019. The director is Manuella Oliveira Yassa, Ph.D., and the assistant director of community engagement is Erin M. Purvis Conway, Ph.D. Manuella Oliveira Yassa earned a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University and master’s and doctoral degrees in social ecology with a focus on science education at UC Irvine. Erin M. Purvis Conway earned a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology at UC Santa Barbara and a Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania.

Applications open November 23 and close January 11. Refunds accepted up until 30 days before the first day of camp, minus a 20% processing fee. Refunds requested within 30 days before the first day of camp will be granted a 50% refund. No refunds within 14 days before the first day of camp unless a replacement can be found, in which case a refund will be granted minus a 20% processing fee. Need-based scholarships are offered for the 2026 UCI Brain Camp; applicants must complete a Brain Camp application in addition to the scholarship application.
