Chozen Martial Arts Academy is led by Owner and Head Instructor Sensei Danny Trujillo, a 7th-degree black belt with over 40 years of martial arts experience and the founder of the academy. His martial arts journey began in 1983 under the mentorship of Shihan Rudy Amaya at Red Dragon Karate, and by 1989 he had taken ownership of the San Dimas studio, eventually expanding to Covina. The academy’s mission states that martial arts is more than physical training and describes three core values: Empowerment Through Martial Arts, Community and Connection, and Integrity Over Ego, with a mission to raise up strong, kind, and confident people through the power of martial arts.
The Kids Martial Arts program is described as a fun and structured environment that builds confidence, focus, and discipline. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program teaches real-world grappling skills, ground control, and submission techniques in a safe, supportive setting. The Krav Maga program teaches practical, no-nonsense self-defense for real-life situations and is designed for adults of all fitness levels, including law enforcement and seniors. The academy emphasizes age-inclusive training and a welcoming, ego-free environment with personalized attention, where students of all ages feel supported, respected, and encouraged to grow mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Chozen Martial Arts Academy describes itself as more than a martial arts school, highlighting a community with family-friendly events, in-house tournaments, and workshops. It describes itself as driven by community, with community outreach organized by Sensei Danny, and as a place where students and families form lasting friendships and support one another. One parent, Amity S., shared that her son became engaged in karate within ten minutes of a trial session with Sensei Zion and now practices his moves at home. Another parent, Dorothy, noted that they always feel welcome, that her son’s success feels like it matters, and that she has seen teachers give one-on-one help to her child and other students during class.
