The program is led by Grand Master Francisco Dárcio Lira and Master Darcio Lira and his family, including Shihan Darlynson, Sensei Dheyne, and Sensei Damokles Lira. Grand Master Francisco Dárcio Lira received his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Master Francisco Sá and was promoted to 7th degree by FIDAM (Federación Internacional de Artes Marciales) in 2003 and to 9th degree in 2009. He received recognition from Grand Master José Gomes and graduated from Master 6th Dan, and he serves as an international delegate to FIDAM in the modality of Jiu-Jitsu. He holds a Veterinary Medicine degree from UECE and has been retired since 1999 by the Agriculture Federal Station of Ceará.

The school states that it is dedicated to reviving the oft-neglected spirit of budo through the mindful and regimented practice of Jiu Jitsu and that it strives for rectitude in action. It describes its Jiu Jitsu as a complete style in concordance with Budo traditions, with technical teaching and cultural philosophy at the center of its approach. The methodology is described as based mainly on the rescue of the martial culture of the East for the Jiu-Jitsu environment in Brazil, and as a didactic practice different from what was commonly found in most academies at the time it was developed.

The community around Dárcio Lira Jiu Jitsu is described as open to students, friends, and people who admire the work developed by Master Darcio Lira and his family together with their disciples for the well-being of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and society in general. Grand Master Francisco Dárcio Lira founded the Dárcio Lira School of Jiu-Jitsu (EDLJJ) and FJJTEC (Traditional Jiu-Jitsu Federation of Ceará), and he is an honored member of League Salteña Jiu-Jitsu in Argentina. He was one of the important activists in Brazil in the fight against the inclusion of martial arts into the Physical Education curriculum under the Federal Council of Physical Education (CONFEF). In June 2010, he was honored at the Legislative Assembly of the State of Ceará for relevant services rendered to the state in humanitarian activities and sporting highlights through the work of the Dárcio Lira School of Jiu Jitsu.
