Owner and chef Teri Appleton Villanueva is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, an award-winning pastry chef, head chef, and recipe formulator, and has been working in professional kitchens and teaching people to cook for the last 25 years. She studied Spanish at UCLA, in Guadalajara, Mexico, and Cali, Colombia, and studied authentic Mexican cooking in Veracruz and Oaxaca with culinary chef Rick Bayless. Owner and chef Jorge Villanueva is a graduate of the School of Kitchen Experience and has cooked for 30 years in professional kitchens, including Pioneer Boulangerie, Josephina’s, Ocean Avenue Seafood, Gladstone’s, Malibu Sea Lion, and as Corporate Chef at Wolfgang Puck’s; he is described as a fish and seafood expert, a master pizza maker, having unparalleled knife skills, and an excellent chef instructor. The program’s mission is to teach people how to cook by showing them how to select quality ingredients, use proper equipment, and master techniques, and to help people create food to advance in their careers or share with friends and family.

Kids Summer Cooking Camps is described as “THE BEST KID’S COOKING CAMP IN LOS ANGELES!” and features kid-tastic themes, a dedicated staff of instructors and summer interns, and internships for teens ages 14 and up and adults that may lead to future employment and may possibly earn credit toward future classes and training, with a meal provided with each internship shift. The Kids Monthly Cook and Bake Series meets for 1.5 hours once a week throughout the month, and charter funds may be used for the Kids Monthly Homeschool Cook & Bake Series from specified schools. Gift certificates for the program never expire, have no inactivity fee, are transferable, and are non-refundable. For cooking classes, participants are asked to wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip flops), and Chef Tech supplies aprons, side towels, recipes, and all other needed items.

One parent testimonial states, “I can't say enough good things about the kid's cooking classes here! The chefs teaching are patient, and kind, and great at meeting each child where they are. The environment is fun and relaxed without being chaotic. I highly recommend this spot.” Another testimonial from Ronald McDonald House Long Beach thanks Chef Teri and her crew for hosting an “amazing cooking class,” reflecting the program’s involvement with that organization.
