The Long Beach Junior Lifeguard Program includes instruction in lifeguard rescue techniques, first aid, ocean sports, physical conditioning, and marine ecology. It also offers a Long Beach Junior Lifeguard Summer Program for ages 9 to 17, with morning and afternoon sessions from June 21 to July 30. A Prep Class is available for prospective new JGs to work on swimming stroke, speed, and confidence in the water.

About the provider
New JGs must pass a tryout at one of the scheduled Tryout dates or at a prep class before they register. Registration opens in February every year. Due to high demand for the morning session, there is a priority registration policy, and scholarships are available for LBUSD students.
