Young Horizons Child Development Centers

Young Horizons Child Development Centers offers an Infant Program for children ages 6 weeks–18 months with sensory experiences, tummy time, music, and early interactions. It also offers a Toddler Program for ages 18–30 months with exploration, hands-on learning, social interaction, structured routines, early language development, and creative activities. The Preschool Program serves children ages 2.5–5 years and includes early literacy, math concepts, social skills, creative expression, play-based learning, structured activities, and group interactions.

Programs

• Infant Program — 6 weeks–18 months · Safe, nurturing environment with individualized care; sensory experiences, tummy time, music, and early interactions.
• Toddler Program — 18–30 months · Encourages exploration, hands-on learning, social interaction, structured routines, early language development, and creative activities.
• Preschool Program — 2.5–5 years · Prepares children for kindergarten with early literacy, math concepts, social skills, creative expression, play-based learning, structured activities, and group interactions.
• Literacy Program — Builds foundational reading and writing skills through stories, songs, interactive activities, books, phonics exercises, and vocabulary-building techniques.
• Food Program — Provides well-balanced, nutritious meals and snacks that meet USDA guidelines.
• Music & Movement — Children sing, dance, and explore rhythm to develop coordination, listening skills, and self-expression.
• STEM — Hands-on activities that foster curiosity and lay the foundation for critical thinking.
• Gardening — Children learn about nature, responsibility, and teamwork by growing plants and taking care of the garden.
• Yoga & Mindfulness — Activities designed to improve focus, flexibility, and emotional regulation.

At a glance

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• General schedule: Full-day child care is offered at some locations from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Half-day preschool sessions are offered at Central Pacific Center: AM session 7:45–11:15 a.m.; PM session 12:00–3:30 p.m.

It also offers a Literacy Program with stories, songs, interactive activities, books, phonics exercises, and vocabulary-building techniques, a Food Program with well-balanced, nutritious meals and snacks that meet USDA guidelines, Music & Movement, STEM, Gardening, and Yoga & Mindfulness.

Young Horizons requires family to live or work in Long Beach. It is currently accepting applications for Half Day State Preschool and Full Day Care for Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers. Eligibility is based on documentation and verification of public assistance, income eligibility, homelessness, or a child at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation, or receiving child protective services. Low income may qualify for free or low cost services. State of California sliding-fee scale applies.
