A Place Called Home Youth Programs was founded in 1993 in response to the LA Civil Unrest and has served its community for more than 30 years. Its mission is to inspire, encourage, and support the young people in South Central Los Angeles to achieve social, emotional, and economic success. The program serves South Central youth in elementary through high school and into their mid-twenties, as well as their families, and has been involved in helping fight food insecurity for families in need. It offers free meals to children through a Federal Food Service Program and offers an innovative charter high school, Da Vinci RISE High at APCH, for students navigating foster care, housing instability, the juvenile justice system, and other circumstances that have disrupted their education. The organization states that it has been supporting the youth of South Central Los Angeles, offering comprehensive programs in arts, education, and wellness, helping to increase graduation rates, reduce the likelihood of involvement in the juvenile justice system, and foster hopeful futures, while transforming lives and building a stronger South Los Angeles community. One alumnus, Chris, says that APCH gave him a desire to be a positive role model, and another alumna, Fernanda, says she met some of the most influential people in her life there and still uses the skills she learned at APCH.
