ACA @ Los Angeles has a 10:1 student-to-staff ratio, with all directors and counselors at least 21 years of age and experienced working with high school and middle school students. All staff complete in-depth training on ACA’s philosophy, policies, safety protocols, and procedures, and students are chaperoned by ACA staff members throughout their stay. The program uses local private transportation, chartered coach, and taxi services, and does not use public transportation. Weekend Adventures are always included, and students are required to travel in pairs or groups under the safety policy.

Students choose two options from creative/arts courses, business/tech courses, athletics, or personal enrichment, and one option from internship, outdoor adventure, ACT or SAT prep, or community service. ACA classes are graded on a “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory” basis, and all students receive an ACA Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of each course. Courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and students must supply their own cameras for the Digital Photography course. Most students spend between $150 and $200 per week on souvenirs, snacks, laundry, and personal items, and cell phones are allowed but not during classes.

ACA staff meet students at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and escort them to air-conditioned shuttles, and students attending the San Francisco Extension return home from San Francisco International Airport (SFO), while those attending the Hawaii Extension return home from LAX. Parents are welcome to drive students directly to ACA. ACA notes that students are always within minutes of world-class medical services, and the front desk in the residence hall is staffed 24 hours a day with trained personnel.

The program is celebrating its 33rd summer and states 33 years of expertise in pre-college and study abroad programs. The leadership team includes Founder and Executive Director Jason Lubar. ACA’s mission is to provide university-based pre-college summer programs in an interactive environment with a structured experience in and out of the classroom, and to offer educational and cultural experiences for students and staff from around the globe. The organization states that it is accredited, without a specific accrediting body named in the provided information, and notes that it has one of the lowest student-to-staff ratios of any pre-college program in the industry, at 10:1 in the US. Mid Winter Savings of $500 off all US programs are listed among the program details.
