About
UCLA UniCamp is an overnight summer camp where campers take part in activities such as an alpine climbing tower, canoeing, swimming, archery, arts & crafts, backpacking, mountain biking, sailing, and rec. Classic UniCamp is a traditional residential camp program that includes activities such as archery, arts & crafts, rec, an alpine climbing tower, sailing, and mountain biking. Older Camper programs include UniCorps and WALL, with WALL featuring wilderness exploration with backpacking, canoeing, mountain biking, and one-night backpacking and camping excursions.
• Ages: 10–17 years old
• Schedule: Sessions range from 6 to 8 days throughout the summer
• Price: Your camper qualifies for the low rate of $265 (or $375 for The Village Session). The full cost to UniCamp is $1600 per camper. Your camper qualifies for the medium rate of $425 (or $675 for The Village Session).
Classic Camp serves ages 10–14 with activities such as an alpine climbing tower, canoeing, swimming, archery, and arts & crafts, and specialty camps for ages 15–17 are structured to push campers out of their comfort zone and challenge them to become leaders within UCLA UniCamp. UniCorps focuses on leadership skills development to become a junior counselor, guiding younger campers and completing service learning projects, and participants earn 30 hours of community service after completing the program. The Village Session focuses on empowering campers through appreciating African American heritage in the context of social justice. The program has a primary focus on social-emotional learning through living together and accomplishing goals together, and it includes nature and STEM programming that connects campers to nature. Campers engage in meaningful experiences designed to build character strengths and support their growth throughout the camp season.
Each Classic UniCamp session partners with a Los Angeles area nonprofit or after-school program to address a specific social initiative, and The Village Session partners with The Village Nation. UCLA UniCamp is the official philanthropy of the Students of UCLA and is an independently funded non-profit and 501(c)3 that annually links 500 UCLA student volunteers with over 1,200 urban LA youth. The program describes a Continuum of Care model that creates opportunities for kids to become campers, campers to become student volunteers, volunteers to become community leaders, and community leaders to contribute to underserved kids. UCLA UniCamp has been serving LA youth since 1928 and has served over 60,000 youth and over 10,000 volunteers over the past 85 years. UCLA UniCamp is a program of University Camps, Inc., is an equal opportunity provider, and pursued and earned a Character at Camp grant from the American Camp Association as part of a cohort of camps committed to continuous improvement in character development. Camp River Glen was devastated by a massive flash flood from Tropical Storm Hilary in August 2023, and camp will be held at an alternate campsite in 2024 and 2025.
