Founded in 2009, Act-1 Academy for Children's Theatre is an educational organization dedicated to providing an inclusive, nurturing, and creative environment for youth ages 1–18 to explore the performing arts. The Academy states that its goal is to help develop well-rounded and confident actors, singers, and dancers, and to provide a space for artistic youth to build a supportive community, create a strong work ethic, and grow in compassion and kindness.

Act-1 Academy for Children's Theatre was founded by Chera and Sierra, who serve as Artistic Director and Managing Director. The leadership and teaching team includes Chera (Artistic Director), Sierra (Managing Director), Graham (Musical Director), and teaching artists Jonny, Kate, Iydan, Bryanna, Tamara, Aaron, Vikram, Jessica, Nicole, Nedra, Tyler, and Molleigh.

The program states that every session includes scholarships for families who qualify and that it believes everyone deserves to share in theatre regardless of financial situation. It prefers to keep classes limited in size so individual students receive more attention. The organization states that it aims to implement the LA Anti-Racist Theatre Standards, understands that all identities are intersectional, and will not ignore instances of discrimination based on gender identity, sexual orientation, religious practices, classism, ableism, and ageism. It also states that it is always looking for ways to connect to new volunteers and is seeking true equity and lasting, systemic change in its institutions and community.

One parent testimonial reports that their children immediately felt welcomed by students and staff, that the production was complex but children came first, and that Chera and Sierra worked patiently with children until they mastered a technique or scene. The same testimonial notes that the children made new friends, learned how to work as a team, and became better performers.
