Academy for Children's Theatre (ACT-1) is an educational organization founded in 2009. Its stated mission is to provide an inclusive, nurturing, and creative environment for youth ages 1–18 to explore the performing arts, with goals that include developing well-rounded and confident actors, singers, and dancers, and offering a space where artistic youth can build a supportive community, create a strong work ethic, and grow in compassion and kindness. The program states that every session includes scholarships for families who qualify and that it believes everyone deserves to share in the transformative magic of theatre regardless of financial situation. ACT-1 prefers to keep classes limited in size so individual students receive more attention and are not part of a very large production.

The organization was founded by Chera and Sierra, who serve as Artistic Director and Managing Director. The leadership and teaching team includes Chera (Artistic Director), Sierra (Managing Director), Graham (Musical Director), and teaching artists Jonny, Kate, Iydan, Bryanna, Tamara, Aaron, Vikram, Jessica, Nicole, Nedra, Tyler, and Molleigh. ACT-1 states that it aims to implement the LA Anti-Racist Theatre Standards, seeks equity and lasting systemic change in its institutions and community, and recognizes that identities are intersectional, including experiences related to gender identity, sexual orientation, religious practices, classism, ableism, and ageism.

The program invites people to get involved in its theatre community and notes that it is always looking for ways to connect with new volunteers. One parent testimonial reports that their children immediately felt welcomed by students and staff, describes the production as complex while stating that the children always came first, and notes that Chera and Sierra worked patiently with participants until they mastered techniques or scenes, with the children making new friends, learning to work as a team, and becoming better performers.
