International Institute of Los Angeles was established by the YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association) in 1914 and became its own nonprofit in 1936. The organization’s mission is to provide transformative services to refugees, immigrants, and working families by promoting self-sufficiency, strengthening resiliency, and honoring cultural identities, and to cultivate an inclusive community where a sense of belonging supports each person’s well-being. The Child Development Division provides flexibility for parents working nontraditional hours, looking for a job, going to school, or looking for housing, and administers voucher-based programs that reimburse the cost of child care for low-income families with children up to 13. International Institute of Los Angeles partners with providers in the Family Child Care Home Education Network (FCCHEN), an educational enrichment program for children 0–13 that offers subsidized services to eligible families for free or at low cost in quality family child care homes, and FCCHEN providers receive ongoing professional development training, guidance, and technical support from IILA program specialists.
