The IMPACTO Youth Development Program was initiated in the early 1990s by mothers in the community who sought to establish connections with gang-involved youth and provide them with a safe alternative to the streets. IMPACTO operates all sports and recreational programming at the Aliso Pico Recreation Center in Boyle Heights, serving nearly 400 youth in the community. IMPACTO programming includes daily after-school and summer programming at Dolores Mission School and the Aliso Pico Recreation Center, and Academic Case Management for students at Mendez High School, Roosevelt High School, Roosevelt Continuation High School, and Hollenbeck Middle School who are at risk of dropping out. In 2024, 100% of the seniors IMPACTO worked with graduated on time with their peers. Proyecto Pastoral’s mission is to empower the neighborhood of Boyle Heights through grassroots projects in education, leadership, and service, and Proyecto Pastoral collaborates with the Boyle Heights community to effect lasting change through education, leadership, and service. The program is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and through the Department of Arts and Culture. The leadership team includes Raquel Román, MSW, Executive Director.
