Overtime Sports Camp is an all-day summer camp for kids in grades TK–6 and serves communities in Monte Sereno, San Jose, Campbell, Saratoga, Cupertino, Santa Clara, and the greater Bay Area. Campers are placed in groups of about 10–15 kids organized by grade, and each group has two counselors, an assistant counselor, and a head counselor. Every Friday is a Fun Friday with special carnival games, sweet treats, camp-wide competitions, and lunch provided, and Thursdays are Jersey Days. OT welcomes all kids regardless of athletic experience and exposure, and the camp is described as designed to fit all kids’ needs.
The leadership team includes Directors Brooke Binkley and Jay Herington. Brooke is a teacher at Fisher Middle School in Los Gatos, where she teaches 6th-grade English and Leadership, and she has 15 years of experience working at Decathlon Sports Camp, including 8 years as a Director. She earned her BA from the University of Colorado and completed her teaching credential and Masters in Education at Notre Dame de Namur. Jay is a math teacher at Nesbit School, where he teaches 7th-grade Math and Leadership, previously taught middle school math in Oakland, and also worked at Decathlon Sports Camp for 15 years, starting as a junior counselor and later serving in a director role. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and attended Notre Dame de Namur for grad school.
The camp’s stated mission is to bring the pure element of play back into children’s lives, with a philosophy that goes beyond the scoreboard and focuses on enhancing self-esteem, building unshakable confidence, and empowering the next generation of leaders. According to the mission statement, through new games, teamwork, and a focus on sportsmanship, campers build lifelong friendships in an environment described as safe, nurturing, and exciting.
Families are asked to make sure campers arrive each day with lunch, shoes, a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and clothing that accommodates physical activity. Each camper must bring a morning snack and lunch every day except Fridays, when lunch is provided as part of Fun Friday.
Parent and teacher testimonials describe Brooke as a positive, caring adult who supports healthy friendships and student well-being, and they describe Overtime Sports Camp as a safe, inclusive, and fun place for kids to learn and practice sports and make new friends. Other testimonials state that campers came home happy and tired, that some children described Overtime as their favorite camp of the summer, and that one camper said he wished he could attend Overtime all summer. Additional feedback notes that counselors were “awesome,” very tuned in to the kids, and that the camp was well staffed with good communication and fun activities.
