Sea Horse Ranch Riding Lessons offers horseback riding lessons, riding lessons, and dressage training, along with horse training and horse boarding. The program also includes clinics, workshops, and demonstrations that focus on riding and training topics.
Sea Horse Ranch Riding Lessons is owned by Barbi Breen-Gurley, and Barbi and Geoff started the ranch in 1971 and live on the premises. Barbi Breen-Gurley has been an active dressage trainer and instructor since 1970 after attaining her BHSAI from Moat House, England, and she is a USDF Gold Medalist, a Senior Dressage Judge, and a Quadrille Judge. She has been on the USEF Long List and Developing Rider list several times on different horses, has trained eight horses to the Grand Prix level, and has competition results that include national placements and titles between 2010 and 2014 with horses such as Vindicator and Octango. Sea Horse Ranch Riding Lessons uses classical training adapted to each horse and rider, and instruction is provided by a Grand Prix dressage rider. The program also offers workshops, clinics, and demonstrations based on the concepts in the co-authored book “Enlightened Riding,” as well as an audio CD series on guided imagery for riders. The stated mission is that the horse’s happiness and the rider’s satisfaction with the facilities and services are the main concern. Sea Horse Ranch offers boarding services for horses with care for boarders’ horses. Barbi helped start the Coast Mounted Assistance group in 1973 and remains an active and supporting member of this volunteer organization, which is part of the California State Parks Volunteers in Parks Program.
