Shadow Hills Riding School is led by Peggy Ginn and her husband of 39 years, Launnie. Under the expert guidance of Peggy Ginn, who brings over 35 years of experience, the program is based on her background that includes a B.S. degree in animal science with a focus on equine studies from Auburn University and work as a Barn Manager and Assistant Trainer at Goose Downs, a prominent 3-Day Eventing facility. Peggy specializes in imparting the fundamental principles of riding to both young children and adults and excels as a seasoned Jumper rider, actively competing on the A Circuit. Launnie is also experienced and insured to help with hauling. In 1983, Peggy established her business at Los Osos Valley Equine Farm.

The program’s stated mission is to provide a robust foundation while also presenting opportunities for advancement and competition, and to instill confidence, patience, and responsibility through lessons that go beyond the basics of riding and horse care. Before a first lesson, families are asked to fill out a Liability Waiver and email the completed version to Peggy.

Parents and riders describe Peggy as an amazing riding teacher who shares her knowledge, experience, and love of horses with all levels, and they report that riders have learned about riding, responsibilities, and life from her. One adult rider notes that safety and horsemanship education are key in lessons that focus on core strength, balance, position, and feel, and describes the barn as a supportive community. Long-term students report that Peggy provides a safe and supportive atmosphere, promotes learning and fun for both rider and horse, and pushes riders to be the strongest they can be at home and at shows. Another rider and parent notes that Peggy has given both her and her daughter a fantastic foundation and met her needs as a nervous rider, and highly recommends Peggy, her horses, and her program.
