Mammoth Lakes Jiu-Jitsu Youth Program offers training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, self-defense, and other grappling arts. The program includes a Youth Program with Tiny Tigers for ages 5–7 years and Dragons for ages 7 and up. Training takes place at one of the highest-elevation academies in the country at over 7,900 feet.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Price: Starter Bundle — $99 (Includes a Team Gi and an attendance card to track your progress from day one). Monthly Membership — $129 (Unlimited training for all regular classes). Drop-In Classes — $20 (Available for visitors and current students who want extra training or can only attend occasionally).
The Starter Bundle includes a Team Gi. The academy’s mission is to strengthen the mountain community through the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the experience of training at over 7,900 feet. It is described as a welcoming, family-centered academy and a big part of the Mammoth community. Professors are always complimentary for visitor drop-ins.
The leadership team includes Head Professor Grant Collins; Academy Owner and Lead Professor Eric Leach; Professor Steve Fujimoto; Academy Coordinator and Youth Program Head Coach Jennifer Leialoha Lane; Coach David Lane; Coach Elijah Grice; and Youth Coach Jewls Wright. Professor Grant Collins brings more than 32 years of martial arts experience, with black belts in Tae Kwon Do (2nd degree), Hapkido (1st degree), and a 4th-degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Mauricio “Tinguinha” Mariano, along with over 20 Tae Kwon Do titles, Pan American medals, IBJJF Nationals Gold, and SJJIF World Championships Gold. Eric Leach has trained in self-defense and grappling arts since 1991 and holds brown belts in Judo, Karate, and Kempo, and leads the academy as a black belt under Professor Grant Collins. Professor Steve Fujimoto began training in the early 2000s, earned his blue belt from Royce Gracie, joined the Gracie Academy in 2013 under Rorion with sons Rener and Ryron, and received his black belt in 2023. Coach Jennifer Leialoha Lane is a purple belt who has been training since 2019, Coach David Lane is a purple belt who began Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2017, Coach Elijah Grice holds a purple belt, and Youth Coach Jewls Wright has been a student of Jiu-Jitsu since 2023.
