About

AYSO Newport Costa Mesa Region 97 Youth Soccer Programs offers youth soccer programs where participants play soccer. The programs follow AYSO’s Six Philosophies, including Everyone Plays®, Balanced Teams, Positive Coaching, Open Registration, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development. The programs also include the Very Important Player (VIP) program for kids with special needs.

AYSO was established in the Los Angeles area in 1964 with nine teams. The mission of AYSO is to develop and deliver quality youth soccer programs which promote a fun, family environment based on its Six Philosophies. AYSO Newport Costa Mesa Region 97 operates under Standard Regional Policies and Procedures adopted by AYSO.

AYSO is a National Association of the United States Soccer Federation. AYSO is supported by 125,000 volunteers, including parents who donate their time as coaches, referees, team parents, administrators, or sponsors. AYSO is an all volunteer organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children through quality soccer programs and works with a National Team of Sponsors made up of 20 corporations. AYSO has maintained relations with organizations such as the National Council of Youth Sports, Girls Scouts USA, the National Association for Sports and Physical Education, People to People, Optimists International, Police Athletic Leagues, the National Alliance for Youth Sports, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, YMCA, the United States Soccer Federation, and the Character Counts program.

The leadership team for AYSO Newport Costa Mesa Region 97 includes Regional Commissioner Will O'Connor and Assistant Regional Commissioner Kris Reaser. Other roles include Treasurer John Fay, Child & Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA) and Registrar Amy Kenney, Coach Administrator and 14U Division Director Paul Gibney, Referee Administrator Tim Wrubel, Safety Director and 16U/19U Division Director Richard Juge, Assistant Registrar - CORE and Website Coordinator Kristi Kirsch, Assistant Registrar - EXTRA Laura Williams, Fields Director Brett Eckles, Assistant Referee Administrator - Coverage and Purchaser Jeremy Kearns, Director of Referee Assessment Jeff Chandler, Director of Referee Instruction Mike Halphide, Director of Coach Development and All-Stars Director Kris Reaser, Assistant Purchaser Lauren Ocepek, Yearbook Coordinators Mindy Benard and Sarah Flanagan, Communications & Social Media coordinator Rachel Corell, and Regional EXTRA Director Jeff Kenney. Division Directors include Playground (4U) Division Director and Events Committee member Rachel Corell, 5U Division Director Jay Nunez, 6U Division Director Andrea Carrougher, 7U and 8U Division Director Gabe Bowne, 10U Division Director Joe Peterson, and 12U Division Director TBD. The Events Committee includes Amy Kenney, Rachel Corell, Mindy Benard, and Laura Williams.
