About

Summer Nature Camps include observing nature up close using tools like binoculars, magnifying lenses, and microscopes, along with nature play, crafts, games, and other hands-on activities. Campers explore the Center, interact with Animal Ambassadors, play educational nature-themed games, create nature-themed arts and crafts, and do science experiments. Some campers also go on walking field trips in the community, and Wilderness Adventure Camp includes walking field trips each week to the Cleveland National Forest and Modjeska Wilderness Preserve.

• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Camp days run from 9am to 1pm, with an optional after-camp program for an additional 2 hours; sessions are offered in week-long blocks from June 15 through August 7, with no camp on July 3, and registration closes at noon on the Friday before each camp
• Price: Little Naturalist fee: $425; Nature Adventure fee: $375; Science Explorer fee: $375; Wilderness Adventure Camp fee: $375; an additional $60 per camper applies for late registration (less than 96 hours before the first day of a camp session); refund requests made 2 weeks or more before camp start are subject to a $50 fee per session; all session changes incur a $25 fee; ENC members at the Family level or higher can use a discount code for 10% off

Little Naturalist Camp is offered for 4-year-olds and is treated as a child’s first exposure to the day camp experience, like being a camper-in-training. Nature Adventure Camp is offered for ages 5–8, Science Explorer Camp is offered for ages 9–13, and Wilderness Adventure Camp is offered for ages 6–10. Enrollment in Little Naturalist Camp is limited to small classes of up to 8 campers per teacher with a high school assistant, and enrollment in Nature Adventure, Wilderness Adventure, and Science Explorers Camp is limited to up to 10 campers per teacher with a high school assistant. All ENC campers must be fully potty trained. Each week has different activities, and campers spend their time outside using tools like binoculars, magnifying lenses, and microscopes.

Nature Camp Teachers are Naturalists who teach at the Environmental Nature Center throughout the school year, and all educators are described as exceptionally qualified in elementary science education and representing a wide range of expertise in the Orange County educational community. The ENC has offered Nature Camps since 1977. The mission of the program is to provide transformative experiences through connection with nature. Science Explorers Campers go on a weekly walking field trip to someplace in the community, such as Balboa Island, Newport Aquatic Center, or Castaways Park. ENC offers a limited number of partial scholarships each year, covering 50% of the camp fee, with a limit of one scholarship per family.
