About
Camp Pathfinder offers a land-based learning journey that includes hands-on science and creative exploration. The program follows elemental pathways aligned with the four cardinal directions, focusing on Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. Camper groups are organized as Wiggle Worms, Mischief Makers, and Wise Old Owls, with activities connected to traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and Cultural Emotional Intelligence.
• Ages: 6–12 years old
• Schedule: Session 2 runs June 22–25, 2026, during museum hours Wednesday–Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Camp Pathfinder takes place at the Museum of the American Indian, which functions as a living cultural center and offers educational tours and programming that include lessons about local tribes, traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), Indigenous identity, and the history of Indigenous Peoples of the Americas. The museum also hosts lectures, readings, workshops, and cultural events that uplift Indigenous Cultures of the Americas. The Museum of the American Indian uplifts, supports, and makes visible the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas by offering authentic educational programs and cultural resources to Marin and the greater Bay Area. In the 1960s, the development of Miwok Park unearthed archaeological objects and led to the establishment of the museum structure, which was acquired in 1967 and relocated from downtown Novato to Miwok Park. Support for this program has been provided by the California Arts Council, the Marin Community Foundation, the San Francisco Foundation, and the Coast Miwok Tribal Council of Marin, with additional funding from California Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and First 5 Marin for related Indigenous nature-based programming.
